NATIONAL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD (NSO)

The National Science Olympiad is an academic and scholastic aptitude competition encouraging learning in , Science, Enviornment and Mathematics . This exam assesses the student at national level by doing away with the drawbacks and inadequacies of testing done at school / regional level. A national level assessment gives the student an idea where he / she stands and imparts the confidence to face exams at National level.

How to Participate

The National Science Olympiad invites students from classes 2nd to 12th to participate and excel at national level. The competition is at two levels.

Level 1: The first level of the test is organized in the respective schools of the participants during the school hours.
(i) The level 1 competition is a written objective-type test of 60 minutes duration comprising 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 2 to class 12.
(ii) The question paper consists of Science and Mental Ability section.
(iii) There are separate question papers for each class.
(iv) The medium of the test is English.
(v) CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabus is followed for setting the test papers.
(vi) The exam is conducted during school hours, preferably between 10.00 a.m. and 11a.m.

Level 2 : Across India and abroad organized at more than 120 centres.
Top 500 students along with all school-topper award winner of level 1 qualify for the level 2 from each class. For the level 2, admit card containing all information regarding exam centre, date, timing, etc. is issued to the qualified students through their respective schools.

Registration of Students : The event is open to the students of classes 2 to 12 and registrations are received from the schools in the prescribed pro-forma. Registration sheet for the school / students and the information booklet are posted to the schools all over India and abroad.

Roll Numbers :

The school's coordinating teacher will be generating the students' Roll Numbers as per the guidelines given. A copy of these roll numbers along with the students' registration and school registration sheet should be sent to the Foundation's office before the last date.

Foundation will register your school and the students and despatch question papers and guidelines for conducting the examination. Principals / teachers may please note that any school can be registered as a centre for NSO. No fee is required from the institution to become a registered examination Centre.

Minimum of 50 students need to be registered from each school for feasibility reasons. Students should be registered through the schools only. Individual registration by the student is not encouraged.

Fees : A nominal participation fee is charged from each student. Part of it is retained by the school for its expenses as exam centre. Details about the fee / mode of payment etc. are given in the School Registration Forms sent to schools.

Class 2 to 8 :

Gold Medal & Laptop will be awarded to the students at All-India position 1 in each class
Silver Medal & Laptop will be awarded to the students at All-India position 2 in each class
Bronze Medal & Laptop will be awarded to the students at All-India position 3 in each class
Rs.5100 will be awarded to the students at All-India position 4 to 10 in each class
Set of 4 useful CDs worth Rs.1596/- will be awarded to the students at All-India position 11 to
50 in each class
Set of 3 informative CDs worth Rs.1197/- will be awarded to the students at All-India position 51 to 100 in each class
Set of 2 enlightening CDs worth Rs.798/- will be awarded to the students at All-India position
101 to 250 in each class

Edifying CD gifts worth Rs.399/- for students at All-India position 251 to 500 in each class

Class 9 to 12 :

Gold Medal and Rs.51000 will be awarded to the students at All-India position 1 in each class
Silver Medal and Rs.31000 will be awarded to the students at All-India position 2 in each class
Bronze Medal and Rs.21000 will be awarded to the students at All-India position 3 in each
class
Rs.5100/- will be awarded to the students at All-India position 4 to 10 in each class
Rs.3100/- will be awarded to the students at All-India position 11 to 20 in each class
Rs.2100/- will be awarded to the students at All-India position 21 to 30 in each class
Rs.500/- will be awarded to the students at All-India position 31 to 500 in each class

1. SIT (Science Intellect Trophy): The respective school of each GOLD, SILVER, BRONZE medal winner will be awarded a SIT (Science Intellect Trophy) for having the winning students on their rolls.
2. SSQ (School Science Quotient) Report for every participating School Principal/ Management and HoD of Science department /Science teachers of the school.
